BRUSSELS – The Belgian postal service has been found guilty of involuntary homicide and fined EUR 230,000 for failing to prevent an employee committing suicide, the Belgian media reported on Tuesday.

Postal worker David Van Geysel, aged 21, threw himself under a train in 2000. He left a suicide note in which he blamed repeated bullying by workmates at the post office in Wezembeek-Oppem, near Brussels, for his decision to take his own life.

Brussels judges found the Postal service and five of Van Geysel’s former colleagues guilty of involuntary homicide. The five men received suspended prison sentences ranging from 18 to 22 months.
