Police swoop on Brussels immigrant quarter

BRUSSELS – Brussels police on Thursday afternoon and evening carried out identity checks on 113 separate people in Anneessens, a district with a large north African population.
The swoop took place on between 4pm and midnight on Thursday, Belgian news agency Belga reported.
According to Belga, 24 people were taken in for police questioning after the swoop.
Of those, six were fined for staying in Belgium illegally and four were ordered to leave the country.
