23 November 2004

BRUSSELS – A 13-year-old boy has been caught on a speed camera on his way to Brussels – driving a car at over 147km/h on the E40 motorway.

Police sources told Tuesday’s edition of La Derniere Heure that the gypsy boy, who was arrested between Liege and Brussels, was the youngest speeder they could remember dealing with.

Officers caught up with the adolescent on Saturday morning near Tirlemont. His passenger was a 16-year-old boy who had been arrested by police for seven previous crimes.

The car driven by the 13-year-old wasn’t stolen, but it didn’t have any insurance or papers and had fake licence plates.

The two juveniles were taken before a youth judge and released several hours later.
