Parking fine scam hits Brussels

22 April 2004

BRUSSELS – Scores of drivers in Brussels have fallen victim to a scam involving fake parking fines, it was revealed on Thursday.

The bogus parking tickets have been turning up on the windscreens of cars parked on many of the capital’s major streets including the Chaussee de Waterloo and Avenue Louise.

The tickets demand a payment of EUR 12 and give the details of a bank account set up in the name of the ‘City of Brussels’ that the money should be paid to.

Experts say anyone worried that they may have received one of the fake tickets should contact the local police before attempting to pay the fine.
