BRUSSELS – One in three families in Belgium will never be able to raise enough money to buy their own homes, according to a new study published in Flemish newspaper De Morgen on Tuesday.

The report, called ‘Home Ownership at Risk in Belgium’, was drawn up by two professors from Antwerp university.

The study found that around a third of Belgian families would never be in a position to buy a house.

“Even by combining all of the savings and all of the subsidies available, around 350,000 households (15 percent) will never be able to buy a house. A further 350,000 households do not meet the necessary criteria to qualify for a bank loan, notably because of their age,” the report said.
