BRUSSELS — The October of 2005 is set to be recorded as the third warmest October since records started being kept in 1833.

Entering the last day of the month on Monday, weatherman Eddy de Mey said it was a matter of wait and see whether this year’s October would officially take third rank.

De Mey was speaking after Sunday entered the history books as the warmest 30 October since 1833, newspaper ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ reported.

The highest temperature was recorded at Kleine Brogel in Limburg, where the mercury rose to 23.4 degrees Celsius.

A temperature of 21 degrees was recorded on the pier at Oostende and 22 degrees at Ukkel.

The previous warmest 30 October was set in 1968 when a temperature of 20 degrees was recorded in Ukkel.

Even see water temperatures are abnormally warm for this time of year, with a temperature of 16 degrees, De Mey said.
