Number of job openings at record level

7 August 2007

BRUSSELS – The Flemish Public Employment Service (VDAB) received 24,617 new job openings (excluding temporary jobs) in July. That was just slightly less than in the record month of June and significantly more than in July last year.

So far the VDAB has received 25.3 percent more job openings in 2007 than in the same period in 2006. An overview of the figures shows a steady climb since 2004.

The VDAB has been able to fill 83.5 percent of the approximately 170,000 openings received in 2007. 77,000 openings were for unskilled workers, 54,000 new jobs were open for highly educated workers.

The figures indicate that the economy is certainly not cooling off yet on the labour market in Flanders.
