Not enough potatoes!

7 February 2007

BRUSSELS – Belgium is in danger of facing a potato shortage.

“The poor potato harvest means that there are only 600,000 tonnes in reserves of ‘old’ potatoes in Belgium,” says agriculture expert Luc Busschaert.

The manufacturers of potato products are also sounding the alarm.

The harvest of the most recent potato season was extraordinarily meager because of the extreme heat last July and the rain in August.

The crops suffered both in quality and yield.
