New train schedules: good and bad news

170 trains have been scrapped, while other links have been improved. In Beringen, Limburg province, travellers have every reason to be happy.

First the good news: the number of train services between Antwerp and Brussels Airport will double on weekdays. And in Limburg province, Belgian Rail has opened two new stations in Zonhoven and Beringen. Local residents are delighted with the new stops and promise to take the train more often now.

The train stop in Beringen was abolished 50 years ago, but it should now become a new hub for local public transport. The Flemish public transport company De Lijn is to build a new bus station in Beringen as well.Beringen is one of the biggest municipalities in Western Limburg with 44,000 inhabitants.

On the other hand, the Belgian rail company NMBS has also scrapped 170 trains, especially very early and late trains. This is bad news for commuters working in very late or early shifts. Check the new schedules here.
