New pill to beat the post-booze droops

3 March 2004

BRUSSELS – A new pill that it is claimed can restore a man’s sexual prowess after he has consumed large quantities of alcohol is set to go on sale in Belgium, the drug company that makes the product said on Tuesday evening.

Dutch company Cobeco Pharma said it will begin marketing the pill, a food supplement called Paraxine, at the beginning of the summer.

Paraxine is already available in the Netherlands and can also be bought over the internet without prescription.

Cobeco says the product helps people get over hangovers more quickly because it contains an amino acid called asparagine, which speeds up the process of absorbing alcohol in the bloodstream.

But the pill’s users say its greatest asset is that it can also enhance sexual prowess, which most men will know has a tendency to sag after a heavy night’s drinking.

Cobeco recently carried out a survey of Paraxine users, most of whom said they used the product to increase their sex drives after drinking.

A box of Paraxine currently costs EUR 17.90.
