BRUSSELS – A new case of ‘mad cow’ disease has been detected in Belgium, the Belgian press reported on Tuesday.
The infected animal, which has since been destroyed, was discovered on a farm in the town of Vladso in west Flanders. It was born in 1998.
The Belgian authorities have ordered that ten other cows from the same herd be slaughtered and burned.
A total of 120 cases of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathie (BSE) have been declared in Belgium since 1997.
