Most students face violence

14 November 2007

BRUSSELS – 53 percent of young people between the ages of 14 and 18 say they committed violence on a daily basis last year. 88 percent witnessed violence daily, and 61 percent fell victim. The newspaper De Morgen reports this on Tuesday on the basis of the results from a prevention project entitled ‘Youth against violent…Excellent!’

The project was conducted by the Limburg organisation Kinderrechtenhuis (Children’s Rights Foundation). As part of the project the Higher Institute for Family Sciences conducted a survey to gauge the experience of violence among young people.

About 400 students at four Limburg schools responded to the survey during the 2006-2007 school year.
