More Accidents on Roads

BRUSSELS — The number of federal traffic police checks on Belgian roads has decreased by 13 percent in the past three years, Minister of the Interior Patrick Dewael said Wednesday, Gazet van Antwerpen writes.

This means there have been fewer checks for speeding, driving under the influence, resting times for truck drivers and distance between vehicles.

The number of times that the police have had to intervene, mostly in the cases of road accidents, has on the contrary increased from 589,332 to 600,283.

In Dewael ’s opinion, that is a direct consequence of less control.
