BRUSSELS – One of Belgium’s busiest motorways was bought grinding to a halt on Thursday – by a herd of stray cows.

The cows strayed onto the A12 motorway near to Dottignies on Thursday morning and held up traffic for around three hours as they wandered up and down the carriageways.

Fortunately the escaped ruminants did not cause any accidents and they were eventually rounded up and herded back into their field by police officers and the fire brigade.
