ANDERLECHT – A 55-year-old man stabbed his 52-year-old wife to death at their home in Anderlecht on Monday afternoon. The public prosecution department in Brussels announced this on Tuesday. The man has been arrested for manslaughter.

Police handed him over to the court exactly one year ago for beating his wife and threatening her with a knife.

One of the three children of the couple, a 14-year-old girl, found her mother’s body when she came home from school on Monday.

The police say that the woman had three stab wounds and there were also signs she had been strangled. The father admitted on Monday that he had an argument with his wife and that his wife then tried to hurt him with a kitchen knife. He said he wrestled the knife from her and stabbed her to death.

He said she had been threatening him and that he was under the influence of alcohol. He did not resist arrest when police apprehended him.

The man been living away from his family for 18 months before coming to stay in the home once again in March 2007 since he had nowhere else to live.
