Man held over fatal ‘car race’

13 September 2004

BRUSSELS – A Monaco man has been arrested in Belgium following an alleged illegal car race on one of the country’s motorways that left two people dead.

Michel Heydens, 37, was arrested after the alleged race, which took place on Sunday morning.

The authorities say the illegal competition between two Porsches ended in tragedy when one of the cars spun off the road at high speed and smashed into a pylon, killing both people inside.

Heydens was driving the other car.

He denies he was racing.
