BRUSSELS — Long traffic delays were reported around Antwerp on Monday morning as construction works on the city’s ring road entered a new phase.

Reconstruction work started on the link between the ring road and the E34 and E313 motorways to Turnhout and Hasselt.

Long traffic delays resulted, newspaper ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ reported.

Traffic moving along the Singel or the Antwerp ring from the Kennedytunnel was forced to travel over one lane.

Work on changing the road signs started at 5am, but no problems with the work were encountered.

However, traffic congestion was being reported from the start of the morning peak-hour period at 6am. Delays steadily lengthened throughout the morning.

The works around the Antwerp East junction will continue until mid-July.
