BRUSSELS – 18 months after Belgian national Muriel Degauque committed a suicide attack in Iraq, the state security department and the federal prosecution office have drawn up a list of Belgians who are involved in Iraqi terrorist networks, Le Soir reports.
The intelligence authority’s main concern is that these people will return after being trained abroad and set up support networks in Europe and Belgium for future terrorist actions.
The department of state security sent regular warnings to the justice department and the EU Joint Situation Centre – the operational headquarters for Javier Solana, the High Representative for foreign policy and security in Europe – in 2005 and 2006.
