Leuven University wants students to donate sperm

The university’s fertility centre is struggling to meet growing demand for sperm and today faces a shortage.

Supply problems started when the fertility centre began to offer its services to lesbian couples that also wanted a baby. As a result, demand shot up and the fertility clinic had no other choice but to look for new sources of sperm.

This is why Leuven University is launching an appeal to staff and university students to become sperm donors.

Prof Thomas D’Hooghe told VRT News that in consultation with the university’s ethics commission the university intends to promote the opportunities more forcefully.

Males between 21 and 45 years of age including university staff and students are more than welcome. Sperm donors can look forward to 50 euros in expenses for each and every donation.
