"Less rain than we think"

BRUSSELS – It only rains 6 percent of the time in Belgium, according to figures from the meteorological institute KMI.

“Though many would say that it rains often in our country, that turns out not to be the case,” the general statistics department has said.

The figures are from measurements taken at the measuring station in Ukkel in the 1934-1997 period.

The KMI also ascertained that there are two peak precipitation periods in the course of the day: between 5 and 6 am and between 3 and 6 pm. These periods regularly show higher precipitation than other periods in the day.
