BRUSSELS — King Albert II may pay an official visit to Congo to support the relations between the two countries and the “free, transparent and democratic” elections in this former Belgian colony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Guy Vanhengel said during a reception in Lubumbashi.  The agenda and the date of the visit are still unknown.

Vanhengel is currently visiting Congo as the head of a Belgian delegation including 30 representatives from various sectors: professors, doctors and businessmen.

The Belgian purple coalition is still divided on whether the king should go ahead with his visit. The king can not go to Congo without permission from the government.
