Key Belgian party leader rules out early elections

The French-speaking leader of Belgium's socialist party on Friday ruled out early elections despite a failed bid to end the crisis that has deprived the country of a government for nearly 13 months.

“I don’t want elections because it would be even worse,” Elio Di Rupo told RTL-TVI. “The radicalisation would be even stronger.”

“It would resolve nothing,” he told RTBF a little later Friday.

“Tomorrow it will be even more complicated to find a solution,” he added.
