Kazakh family may stay till July

4 April 2007

BRUSSELS – “The two children in school may complete the school year. The family may stay until mid-July. Then they must leave and the municipality should take action.”

Minister of Home Affairs Patrick Dewael (Liberal Open VLD) said this on a current affairs programme last night in reference to the Kazakh family from Blankenberge that has been in the news lately.

Despite criticism Dewael continues to defend the current asylum procedure. The minister says that the Blankenberge municipality has received 15 letters over the past years stating that the Kazakh family must go.
