Internet and mobiles still too dear in Belgium

Published on 15/04/2009

According to a Europe-wide study of telecom industry pricing, Belgians are paying over the odds and the Federal Government is now looking into ways to make broadband and mobile phone accounts cheaper.

According to the Federal Minister responsible for telecommunications Vincent Van Quickenborne (Flemish liberal), cheaper tariffs are already available to customers in Belgium.

However, not enough people are aware of how to get the best deal to suit their needs.

He hopes that a new website www.bestetarief.be will help change this.

The study also says that Belgium is lagging behind when it comes to mobile internet.

Once again the relatively high cost is blamed for the low level of mobile internet use.
