BRUSSELS –Interbrew, the world’s biggest beer maker, could move its headquarters out of Belgium in a bid to avoid to reduce its annual tax and social security bill, the company has said in a newspaper interview.

The Belgian firm told the Financial Times it was considering the possibility of leaving its historical home following it’s recent merger with Brazilian beer maker Ambev, a deal which propelled the new company into the ‘world’s top brewer’ slot.

Interbrew stressed such a move would only involve the company moving its administrative headquarters. The firm would still continue to make beer in Belgium.

Anlaysts suggested on Friday that Interbrew may shift its HQ just a few hundred kilometres away from its existing location in the Flemish city of Leuven, to neighbouring Luxembourg.
