Identikit subject reports to police

30 May 2007

BRUSSELS – The elderly man sought as a possible witness in the murder case of Annick Van Uytsel has reported to police. The federal police say that the man apparently has nothing to do with the case; the public prosecution department in Louvain has confirmed this.

The man, a local resident, had visited Annick’s family home on Sunday 29 April. He was simply concerned and had nothing to do with the disappearance, says prosecution department spokesperson Patrick Vits.

A request for information accompanied by an identikit picture of the man was issued by police on 24 May. That has now been withdrawn.

The same request for information mentioned a young woman seen cycling towards Diest on the left hand side of the Schoonaarde on 28 April at about 4.30 am. No information has come in about this woman, the authorities say.

18-year-old Annick Van Uytsel disappeared on Saturday 28 April after a party in Diest. Her body was found several days later, on 3 May, in the Albert canal in Lummen.
