BRUSSELS – Hungarian airline Euralair has posted a EUR 2 million guarantee to secure a bid for bankrupt Belgian charter carrier Sobelair, Belgian media reports say.

According to the Belgium’s Canal Z Television network Euralair made the payment on Monday.

But the official receivers who are now controlling the bankrupt airline have denied the claim.

“We have still received no payments,” receiver Joris de Smet.

The receivers are apparently negotiating with at least one other potential buyer for the airline although they have not named the mystery firm.

Sobelair was declared bankrupt on 19 January. It had been in financial difficulties for months.
