Huge crowds for Belgian national fireworks

22 July 2004

BRUSSELS – The traditional fireworks display held for Belgian National day attracted around 100 000 people to the Palace square in Brussels on Wednesday night.

Despite the numbers, there were no major incidents, but the emergency services did respond to 90 calls.

Ten people were taken to hospital.

Earlier in the day, thousands of patriotic Belgians braved downpours to attend the traditional 21 July parade in Brussels.
