Hotel crush leaves Hanks sleepless in Bastogne

2 December 2004

BRUSSELS – Tom Hanks will arrive in Belgium this month for the Battle of the Bulge commemorations – but the star can’t find any accommodation in Bastogne.

The organisers of the 60th anniversary ceremonies have appealed to the town’s residents to help find him a bed, according to media group Sud Presse.

He’ll be in town from 15 to 19 December and there isn’t a single hotel room left on those dates in or around Bastogne.

The Hollywood star knows a lot about the history of the Ardennes area in the Second World War – with director Steven Spielberg he co-produced the 10-part mini-series Band of Brothers. The series was based on the Stephen Ambrose book about American soldiers fighting to prevent the Nazis splitting the Allied battle line in half.

Hanks is best known for films such as Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and Sleepless in Seattle.
