Heli crash after christening party

OOSTAKKER –  On Sunday evening a helicopter crashed in Oostakker (Ghent). That afternoon the helicopter had conducted flights for guests at a christening party and left around 5.45 p.m. to return to base. For an as yet unknown reason the helicopter had a loss of power, according to the police.

As a result, the helicopter lost altitude and its tail hit a nearby warehouse. The machine started to swivel and then crashed. The pilot managed to get out and had no injuries. There were no passengers on board when the pilot made an emergency landing in a meadow.

The helicopter has been confiscated and the crash is being investigated by an aviation expert. The pilot has also been interviewed by the police.
