Heavy traffic predicted for holiday weekend

25 March 2005

BRUSSELS – Belgian motorists are being warned to expect delays this weekend as tens of thousands of people head off for an Easter break.

Motoring club Touring says roads out of Belgium to France, Germany and Switzerland are likely to suffer particularly heavy congestion.

For anyone heading to France, the A6/A7 motorway between Paris, Lyon and Marseille has been singled out as a major congestion black spot.

Drivers heading to Germany would be advised to avoid the A3/A9 motorway to Frankfurt and Nuremburg.

Anyone planning a trip to Switzerland has been warned to expect delays on major roads between Lucerne, St Gothard and Chiasso while motorists heading for Austria have been advised to avoid the A10 between Salzburg and Villach.

Within Belgium, Touring says motorways to the coast and the Ardennes are likely to see very heavy traffic.
