Health workers call for 13,700 jobs

3 December 2004

BRUSSELS — About 2,000 health workers have demonstrated in the centre of Brussels as part of a jobs-boost campaign.

They are calling on the government to meet a series of demands they presented a year ago.

Above all, they want 13,700 extra workers to be taken on in the health services. They also want more freedom for clinics and hospitals to shop around for goods and services.

The united unions have warned that more demonstrations and industrial action could follow if their grievances are not listened to.
