BRUSSELS – A strike by medical workers on Thursday has been a success, say Unions.
According to the Christian CNE and its Flemish branch LBC, representing the majority of health sector workers, many of their
members took part.
In Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders many medical institutions went on strike from 6 am.
The strike was observed the most in Brussels and Brabant Wallon, where the St Pierre hospital at Ottignies was working a
minimum service.
The same conditions applied to the Saint-Jean hospital, said Yves Hellendorff from the CNE.
The Eupen hospital in Liege has been operating a Sunday service and there have been pickets across Brabant and Brussels.
In Charleroi, only the Notre Dame clinic in Gosselies took part in the strike, but workers were not stopped from entering
their place of work.
According to LBC representative Walter Cornelis, the industrial action has been widespread in Flanders but 20 000 people were
summoned to work to
maintain a minimum service.
Some LBC union members also chose to block roads around Hasselt with their cares, reports Belga news agency.
