Hautes écoles to decrease tuition fee

20 February 2007

Like university students, students from modest families enrolled in Belgium’s ‘hautes écoles’ – its universities of applied sciences – will benefit from reduced tuition fees.

At the moment, scholarships exist but strict conditions keep many students without financial means from pursuing higher education.

The minister of education, Marie-Dominique Simonet (CDH), is preparing a text that will define new categories of financial need between those students who qualify for scholarships and those who have sufficient resources to afford higher education.

In essence, this text will resemble the text already implemented in universities.
