Half of businesses plan to create jobs

1 June 2007

BRUSSELS – One in two Flemish businesses says it plans to create more jobs this year.

This has emerged from a survey of general and personnel directors at 600 companies in all the Flemish provinces. Only 6 percent of the companies plan to scrap jobs.

More than half expect that it will be even more difficult than last year to find qualified workers. In order to find good people, the companies are considering recruiting among the over-45 age group, working with schools, and attracting employees from the competitors by offering more generous pay packages.

There is little interest in recruiting from other provinces, countries or language communities.
