Government approves action plan to combat poverty

Published on 14/09/2012

The plan boasts dozens of concrete measures that should lift hundreds of thousands of people out of poverty. The measures are related to employment and family support, among other things.

"We accepted the European challenge to lift 380,000 people out of poverty by 2020", says the Secretary of State for Social Integration Maggie De Block (Flemish liberal). "This is a very ambitious goal considering the present economic crisis. It’s a very ambitious plan, which includes no fewer than 118 different measures that will all be evaluated." The cost of each initiative will be calculated in order to allow the government to earmark a certain budget.
