BRUSSELS – A professor of the Royal Military Academy has been charged with fraud by the public prosecution department in Brussels. The man declared the costs of nine conferences and symposiums abroad which never actually took place, La Dernière Heure reported today.

The 62-year-old professor of military history has already confessed with regard to a number of cases. The Military Academy has not suspended him and the man has not been detained, the newspaper reported. The man reportedly drew up nine false invoices and claimed the money from the Academy. The claims involved several thousand euro. The investigation began in June 2006.

The defence department has confirmed the information and will be asking the court to award damages, said Defence Minister André Flahaut.
