Fourniret ‘victim’ found alive

25 November 2004

BRUSSELS – A man self-confessed French serial killer Michel Fourniret says he murdered in the 1980’s has been found alive, it emerged on Thursday.

Fourniret believed he had shot dead the man, a sales representative, at a French motorway service station.

“In fact the man Fourniret had left for dead was only injured,” Reims prosecutor Yves Charpenel told the AFP news agency.

The salesman, who is now retired, tried to press charges after the shooting but the case was dropped for lack of evidence.

Over the summer Fourniret admitted to nine murders, including that of the salesman.

Seven of his other confessed victims were young girls kidnapped in Belgium or France.
