Flemish Weapons Exports Up

8 February 2007

BRUSSELS — Flemish companies sold weapons for 200 million euros last year, which is over 30 percent more than in 2005, Gazet van Antwerpen writes.

The data comes from the Weapon Report by Minister of Foreign Trade Fientje Moerman. The Flemish government has been monitoring weapons exports since August 2003 and is obliged to provide the Flemish parliament with semi-annual reports on the subject.

Last year, the government issued 182 licenses to weapon dealers, 10 percent more than in 2005.

Most weapons are sold to the US, Germany and France.
