Flemish-Walloon wealth gap grows

BRUSSELS – New figures show that on average Belgium’s Dutch speaking Flemish citizens are richer than their Francophone Walloon counterparts.

Nearly one Flemish person in three has at least EUR 50,000 at their disposal, while the same applies to only one in five Walloons.

Walloon pessimism about the savings potential has widened the gap, says the research body GfK Custom Research Worldwide.

The results came from the office’s savings barometer, which covers 17 European countries and the United States.
