De Lijn bus crashes on Brussels Antwerp motorway

Fortunately the wreckage has now been cleared and the highway is open once again.

The accident involving a bus operated by the Flemish local transport company De Lijn happened shortly before 7AM this morning. The bus turned on its side blocking the motorway in both directions for some while. The driver had to be freed from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital but had only sustained light injuries. Federal police say that he was alone in the bus when the accident happened. The vehicle was not on a public route at the time.

A car was also involved in the crash. One person in the car, the driver, sustained light injuries and had to be taken to hospital.

Drivers were obliged to use the E19 Brussels Antwerp motorway instead. The bus was towed away shortly before 9AM and the motorway reopened a little later.
