Big tailbacks on the way to the airport

The situation is so bad that some passengers have even got out of their vehicles and continued their journey to the airport on foot.

Almost three weeks since the terror attacks at the airport, more and more flights are arriving at and leaving from Zaventem. However, with security tightened, passengers are advised to arrive at least three hours before they are due to depart.

Those wishing to reach the airport should leave home in plenty of time as the A201 motorway that links the Brussels orbital motorway with the airport is severely congested. Some people are even continuing their journey to the airport on foot, such is the congestion on the airport road.

A spokesperson for the Flemish Traffic Centre told VRT that “It’s moving very slowly there. People are losing a lot of time on their way to the airport”. The tailback on the A201 is in excess of 1km and there are also tailbacks on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the Brussels orbital motorway.

Although bus services to the airport operated by the Flemish public transport company De Lijn and the Brussels public transport company MIVB resumed last week, the railway station at the airport remains closed.
