Longer queues at Brussels Airport this week

Police unions started a fine-free week this morning. At the same time, there will also be ‘work-to-rules’ at Brussels Airport. On 20 April morning, this already amounted to a 45-minute wait.

Brussels Airport is advising all passengers to arrive on time for their flights. ‘We’re recommending everyone to be at the airport three hours before departure, especially passengers to non-Schengen destinations, such as the UK, the US or Turkey,’ said Brussels Airport spokesperson Anke Franssen.

Fine-free week

Police are carrying out the work-to-rules at the airport during the entire week, to denounce a staff shortage. Though, during the same period, traffic police are having a fine-free week. This means that, for some felonies, officers will not be handing out tickets, and you’ll be able to get away with a formal warning.

The fine-free week is meant to put pressure on the government to look for a solution for the unfavourable police retirement plan. After a recent verdict of the Constitutional Court, officers have to work a couple of years extra before their retirement.
