Fish die for lack of funds

6 August 2007

BRUSSELS – The Brussels Aquarium was forced to euthanize dozens of fish last Thursday, primarily because of lack of funds, La Libre Belgique reported on Monday.

In December former Animal Welfare Minister Rudy Demotte (PS) had about a hundred artificially coloured fish placed at the Aquarium after they were confiscated from another location. The Aquarium was supposed to be awarded damages compensation in order to finance the upkeep of the animals, but the payment never came through.
