Surge in use of data traffic

More and more Belgians are using a smartphone or tablet to go online via 3G or 4G. Telecom operator Telenet has calculated that data traffic has risen 35-fold in five years.

 

The rise is mainly attributed to the popularity of smartphones. The way people use their smartphone has also changed considerable over the years. More and more often people are looking at videos on mobile appliances. The fees that have to be paid for data traffic have fallen sharply. More and more people are no longer afraid to consume large quantities of data.

 

Telenet forecasts an annual 50% increase in data traffic.
