EUR 22 million needed to pay police force

“Due to the freezing of our budget, we can’t adhere to our legal obligations”, Ms De Bolle told the dailies De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad’.

Ms De Bolle has calculated there will be a EUR 22 million deficit, money needed to pay Federal Police officers.

This calculation is based on the expenditure during the first five months of 2014 and was sent, accompanied by a note, to the Interior Minister.

She fears that the budget cut will lead to a reduction in the of Federal Police’s effectiveness.

Ms De Bolle states in De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad that they have tried everything to meet their 2014 needs, but can’t adhere to their legal obligations due to the freezing of their budgets.

In the note addressed to the Interior Minister, she proposes a couple of solutions to the budgetary deficit, such as: slowing down recruitment, freezing cooperation between federal and local police services and restricting overtime.
