Environmentalists flatten tyres of 4wd cars
18 October 2005
BRUSSELS — Environmentalist activists flattened the tyres of some 40 four-wheel drive vehicles across Brussels over the weekend.
The gang, calling itself Flagadas, claims the off-road vehicles are less fuel efficient than other cars and cause more pollution.
The methods of the protestors originate from France, Francophone Belgian daily ‘La Dernière Heure’ reported on Tuesday.
An activist identifying herself as Annick Tamère claimed responsibility for the protest on the internet.
Police said the activists primarily targeted four-wheel drive vehicles in Vorst.
However, police decided against pressing charges because the cars were not damaged in the protest.
The decision prompted angry reactions from the vehicle owners.
