Eldest daughter may stay

3 April 2007

BRUSSELS – The eldest daughter of the Kazakh family in Blankenberge may stay in the country on a study visa, but the rest of the family must go. This was the decision of Freddy Roosemont, general director at the Ministry for Foreigners.

The story of the Kazakh family continues to stir up a lot of emotions. The court which suspended the deportation order for the family, partly because of the children’s good performance at school, cannot count on much support from Roosemont.

But he municipal council of the town where the family has been living has also been given a slap. Roosemont says that local councils are tolerating illegal families more and more.
