Education money in return for reform

BRUSSELS – Flemish Christian Democrat leader and candidate prime minister Yves Leterme sees extra money for French language education as a possible incentive to encourage the francophones to make concessions for state reform.

“The francophones have a great many demands. But there are things we are willing to do and others we are not willing to do. What we can do, for instance, is ensure that they can build schools more inexpensively. That is also good for the students in Wallonia and Brussels. Maybe if we can agree on that the francophones will be willing to talk about our demands,” Leterme said in an interview with the youth news programme on Ketnet.
