Earlier check-in times due to tighter security

BRUSSELS — All passengers of SN Brussels Airlines will from 2006 need to check in 10 minutes earlier for intercontinental flights due to lengthy security procedures.

Passengers for flights within Europe will be required to check in five minutes earlier to give security officers more time to conduct the necessary inspections.

Increased security measures have lengthened the time it takes to carry out the procedures. Security checks with scanning equipment have especially been intensified.

In recent months, hundreds of SNBA passengers — but also passengers with other airlines — have missed their flight due to the longer security checks, newspaper ‘De Standaard’ reported on Monday.

Starting from 1 January, passengers for a European flight with SN Brussels Airlines will need to check in no later than 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

For an international flight, passengers will need to check in one hour before departure.

Zaventem Airport operator BIAC has promised in the long-term to create extra security posts and purchase more scanning machines to reduce waiting times.
